FAQs
Clear answers, before we begin.
I don't have a brand yet. Is that okay?
That's often when the work is most valuable. The Cultural Branding Toolkit (CBT) is built to create from scratch, not to polish what already exists. If you have conviction and can talk about what you're building, you have everything you need.
I'm pre-revenue. Can I still apply?
Yes. Most founders come to us at seed stage or earlier, particularly for the Founder Engagement. Brand clarity at this stage accelerates everything that follows: fundraising, hiring, partnerships, product decisions. You don't need revenue to need a clear brand.
What's the difference between the engagement options?
Both deliver the full Cultural Branding Toolkit: the same 13 component parts, the same methodology. The Founder Engagement runs in two to three weeks, with you providing the inputs and Orange running the methodology on them. The Company Engagement runs over six to eight weeks, with Orange leading multi-stakeholder research, leadership interviews, customer conversations, iteration with your team. The Founder Engagement suits founders who need clarity fast and trust their own read of the business. The Company Engagement suits founders and business leaders who want to engage their teams and have more evidence-based research done on both Customers and Category. If you're not sure which is right for you, book a call and we'll help you decide.
Do you use AI in your methodology?
Yes. Our methodology is partly run through a proprietary engine we've built for Cultural Branding work. It accelerates the distillation of raw founder inputs into the foundational outputs of the Toolkit and helps us hold more cultural complexity than a manual process could. The strategic judgment remains ours and yours. The engine handles pattern-finding at scale. We handle what the patterns mean.
I'm a Head of Brand at a scale-up, not the founder. Is Orange right for us?
Our methodology centres on the founder, so we work best when we have direct access to the founding voice. That said, we regularly work with both Heads of Brand and senior business leads who are internally championing the work and also with founders' partners (advisors, investors, agency leads) who recognise the moment for brand clarity before the founder does. If you're building the internal case for brand investment, reach out. We can help you frame the conversation, identify the right engagement scope, and structure the work so the founder stays at the centre even when they're not the day-to-day client contact.
Do you work with founders outside Africa and the diaspora?
Yes, in two directions. We work with founders from any cultural context whose work involves the kind of complexity our methodology was built for: founders building from underrepresented backgrounds, founders working across multiple cultures, founders whose category sits at a meaningful cultural inflection point. We also work with Western brands and founders launching into African markets, where our methodology and our team's experience across African and Western contexts make us a useful partner for getting it right rather than getting it generic. If you're not sure whether your context fits, reach out. We'll tell you honestly.
Do you work remotely or in person?
Both. The Founder Engagement is designed to run remotely (questionnaires, video calls, gate-by-gate review). The Company Engagement is more flexible. Some founders prefer fully remote with regular video sessions; others want us on-site for leadership workshops, team immersion, or customer research. Where in-person work is useful, we travel. Travel and accommodation costs are agreed separately and added to the engagement fee. If you'd like to know what's practical for your specific situation, reach out.
What happens after the engagement ends, and will you do my brand design?
The Cultural Branding Toolkit is yours. It's designed to be used immediately: in pitch decks, on websites, in hiring conversations, in board meetings, in product decisions. Most founders are using component parts of the Toolkit within days of delivery. We remain available in two ways. First, we offer ongoing strategic advisory as the business evolves, through occasional check-ins, formal extensions, or new engagements when the business hits its next inflection point. Second, we offer additional services that build directly on the Toolkit: investor deck refinement and pitch support, board and leadership communications, ongoing strategic advisory on retainer. When the work moves into design implementation (brand identity, visual systems, design rollout, website build), we either continue with you where the fit is right and our capacity allows, or we connect you with the design and marketing partners we trust. Either way, the Toolkit is the strategic anchor that guides what gets built and how.
